World Wetland Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2 to commemorate the signing of the Ramsar Convention on February 2, 1971. It has been celebrated since 1997. The day is organized in over 95 countries by non-governmental organizations, government agencies and institutions.
The motto of this year's event, proposed by the Convention Secretariat, is "Wetlands for Sustainable Urban Future". Recalling that from the dawn of time, the neighborhood of wetlands was a factor conducive to the settlement and development of civilization, we would like to invite you to a discussion about the relationship of wetland - the city today and in the future that awaits us. Is there a place in the city for wetlands close to nature? What role do the rivers, ponds, lakes and swamps play in the agglomerations? Are we able to appreciate the role of geographically distant wetlands for the flood safety of cities? And if we are managing the urban space and being its inhabitants, we can improve the fate of the inhabitants of the wetlands: those in the city and outside it?
