Capacity Building Program on Environmental Issues
On 1-3 December 2018 near Tibilisi (Georgia) a training organized by Youth Center for Civil Development was held as a part of the project entitled "Capacity Building Program on Environmental Issues - Promoting Regional Sustainable Development" founded by the Visegrad Fund. Participants of the training were activists of the Kvemo Kartli region (south-eastern Georgia). The trainers were: Jiří Dlouhý, head of the Department of Environmental Education at the Environmental Center of the Charles University in Prague and Barbara Grzebulska, REC's expert in the field of environmental education and biodiversity.
The topics of this three-day training covered such issues as:
- Environmental policy
- Water management
- Waste management
- Wetlands restoration
- Urban development
- Climate change
- case studies, group work, motivation workshop
The goal of this intensive training for local green activists from 7 municipalities of Kvemo Kartli region was to become more competitive and aware of environmental issues such as: air, water and soil pollution, natural resource depletion, waste disposal, urban sprawl, public health issues. Participants raised knowledge about sustainable development topics. The event was an opportunity for Green-minded people to acquire practical skills, such as negotiating and networking. The participants will conduct the workshop by themselves on the local level based on the skills and knowledge gathered in Rustavi.
